1) What is your very short story about?

Sand is about a woman, beautiful and desired, but untouchable. The male protagonist wants to love her, and wants to mean something to her, but she moves on, leaving him, and her other lovers, behind her in ruins.

2) What motivated you to write this story and submit it to the festival?
Sand - photograph

My father took a photograph of me (photo here) walking on a sandblow; the idea came from the heat and expanse of sand, where any marks we make are covered over by the unfaltering wind. I was motivated to submit it to the festival after seeing the previous winners’ videos on YouTube – I love the idea that a whole narrative can be condensed to 140 characters.

– My story is about having to make difficult decisions but maintaining courage and grace in the face of fear.

2) What motivated you to write this story and submit it to the festival?

– As a writer who is just starting to share my work, this seemed like a fun and interesting challenge to tackle. It was a lot of fun!

3) What movie have you seen the most in your life?

– For the past several years, I have been completely in love with Café de Flore, directed and written by Jean Marc Vallee and starring Vanessa Paradis, Kevin Parent, Hélène Florent and Evelyne Brochu.

It is such a beautifully told story of true love and soul mates.
