Branan Lachlan, heir to the duchy of Glaxton in Scotland, has it all. He is the lord-to-be, about to marry his lovely but pregnant fiancée, and has a peculiar light in his belly that calls him to God. He is surrounded by family that loves him and a life worth living under a king named Macbeth.

On the eve of his wedding, the young man and his friendly group of drunken Scotsmen encounter a terrifying being that looks Branan in the eye and says “I have come for you”. The strange creature then bites Branan seemingly to drain him of his very life. His brother, Earc, with a lucky strike with his sword, cuts off the offending creature’s head and leaves…
